So I am planning out a home wall and as part of the padding I am considering using mattresses. We have an old mattress that would be well suited to it but my wife wants to use that mattress as a guest bed.
I was kind of thinking we only have guests 2-3 times a year so maybe it could do double duty. In the garage as a pad until guests come then dust off the chalk and throw some sheets on for the guest bed.
We are worried it might get too lumpy/beat up doing that though. Any thoughts on how mattresses hold up when used as bouldering pads from those that have done it?
Yeah it'll be a bit lumpy since you're going to max compress the springs all the time by standing and landing on them. Plus it'll get really full of chalk that you just can't clean. Go on Craigslist and check the free section, there are always light used or even new mattresses you can snag for pads.
