Does anyone have experience using umbilicals on the Alp Wings? The hole on the spike is covered by the "horn". Will some cord through the small hole on the "horn" suffice as an umbilical attachment point? Also will the large grivel trigger work on the alp wing? I.e. will it slide over the rivet in the shaft?
Thanks for your input!

I don't have experience with the Grivels, but I did have the same issue with the 1st gen BD Vipers. I ended up notching the back of the 'horn' just enough to fit a section of 3mm cord thru. Worked great. You can see it in the upper right corner.
OK sorry to divert the thread so soon, but since Erik essentially answered the question already, can someone explain to me why they use umbilicals anyway? Back in the day, I started out with straight shafts and essentially hanging from umbilicals to crank in old Chouinard screws with the ratchet gizmo (was not yet hard enough to lead full pitches without hanging to place pro), but when both I and gear eventually evolved to a higher std, I never looked back at umbilicals...now they are back and supposedly just as keepers, not to hang/belay from.
Since no one seemed to need them when leashes were in fashion, and it seems to me, one was more likely to drop an axe going in/out of a leash, why the need now? Far as I can tell, the axe is either in your hand or it's placed in the ice/rock (just like the leash days).
Not trying to be argumentative about what is "better" blah blah blah (no right answer here), just looking for a perspective from someone who uses them. I found them to be putzy as hell and back then I never switched hands!
