Beautiful coastal cliffs offer a spectacular setti...

Description

Ukraine is a fascinating country, enormous, diverse and unique. Do not make the mistake of considering Ukraine just another state of Russia. There are a wealth of reasons to visit Ukraine including the nature of the Crimea peninsula and Carpathian mountains, vibrant cities such as Lvov and Kiev, ancient fortresses, Orthedox churches and well preserved Slavic culture. There are two areas of interest to climbers: the Crimea and the Carpathian mountains. Crimea has thousands of sport routes and stunning coast-side limestone cliffs with virtually year-round climbing opportunities in addition to limestone bigwalls that go aid or free. The Carpathian mountains offer spectacular sandstone formations with many stunning lines.

The official language is Ukrainian. Everybody understands Russian, but in the west, many do not speak Russian. Few people speak English. At the least, learn the cyrillic alphabet before arriving.

Getting There

International flights fly into Kiev. Look into options flying into cities such as Kharkov, Lvov, and Simferopol as well. Ukraine can also be reached by land from Moldova, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Belarus and Russia. Travelling around Ukraine is best done on trains, which are super cheap and comfortable.
