Tweaked Lobe: What do YOU think?

I have a #1 that has been whipped on a few times and placed quite a bit. The right-most lobe in the picture appears to have become more of an oval where it goes on the axle. So do you think it affects the strength? I'm thinking not, but just wanted other opinions.

I have a 3.5 that does that too, although the far lobs actually touches the next lob in. (Very sideways). I'll try and take a picture tonight. Curious what the tech folks think.

1) Is the cost of a new cam more or less than your life.

2) It is likely that a good portion of the ductility of the metal has been used up deforming the metal around the shaft. If this is the case, the metal could see sudden brittle failure the next time it is highly loaded. Aluminum is not very forgiving in this respect.

If the axle is bent then the strength of the cam's axle is certainly reduced. What does the rest of the cam look like? I don't think the axle usually fails first from what I recall of BD's published testing.

I think you should buy a new cam and not waste anymore megapixels with speculation?

looks like the hole that the axle goes through is majorly disfigured. That lobe probably will fail before the other lobes, and if that lobe goes, the whole came goes.

It seems other people have had similar problems. Scroll down to see the picture of the deformed #2

Yes, it appears to be the hole in the lobe not the axle. I guess I'll just keep it around for aiding on.

I've got a buddy who has damn near a full rack of C4's that look like that. He climbs on them daily. He's still around. I think.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
