I am searching for information on a place in TN or nearby that my husband, who is turning the BIG 5-0, can go climbing. This is on his bucket list and he wants to do it on his 50th birthday. I would love to see if there is anything out there for a complete newbie with no experience, no gear, and no idea as to what he is getting into but has a dream to climb.

Where are you in TN? Climb Nashville is a great indoor gym if you are near there. Check the 'gyms' link at top of this site front page to find one nearby. Otherwise I think you need a guide service closest to Chatt area for rocks, where you can get a days climbing in for a reasonable fee.

There are loads of places in Western NC that would be great for a beginner (with a guide). Linville Gorge for starters. Fox Mountain Guides are the biggest company, but there are others.

lots of places in east tn to top rope but you will need to go with someone that has gear and can show you what to do.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
