Has anyone had any experience using Trango ropes, or heard any feedback about them? AlexLH

another day in the park
I used a Diamond 9.4 70m in Eldo a few weeks ago. Handled really well and seemed really durable. Got lots of comments on the brightness (a good think IMO). Going to order one for myself soon and put it to the test over the summer. Andy Nelson

I just bought the Titan 10.2, 60m, I really like it, I have used it on lead, rope solo, and aid climbing with no problems. It is also seems thinner than a traditional 10.2 and handles really nice. g.miller

Day Lily.
This is all great to hear. The better quality (time, love, genuine concern for the users, etc) every company makes their ropes the better for all of us.

I would definitly check trangos ropes out next time I'm looking for a new rope. Nice.

I'm pretty sure PMI makes them. Doesn't Trango own, or used to own, PMI?
The specifications for PMI and trango ropes match up pretty well. Looks like Trango is rebranding some PMI models.

Just got notified my order just shipped.. diamond 9.4 60m. The only thing I am mildly concerned with is it's only a dry sheath. BUT it will be lighter than my other rope. Planning on some trad this summer. When I get it I'll post a little more info. JacksonLandFill

Stiff right out of the box. Super light (current rope is 10.2 equinox). Seemed to tighten up knots well. Still quite stiff though.

I will get some "face" time soon and give more info. But from the hour i spent with it yesterday... i would buy another one.

Not so sure about that. My guess is it's more of a distribution thing, but I can't say with any authority.

So after a few months with these things, anybody have more comments? Thinking about getting a set of amphibians as my first twin/double set up. Paul-B

After using the 9.4 this weekend: Nice and light. It is constructed very well. Figure 8's were a pain to untie due to how thin the rope is.

One of the users had a figure 8 device with horns that he used for rappelling... the rope did not twist. I used my figure 8 without horns on an equinox 10.2mm which twisted something fierce.

We were using klemheist knots as back up which I noticed did not grab the trango super well. The Metolius prussik set grabbed the best in fact one guy said he actually preferred using it to a rope grab device. That said... the prussik set used on the equinox rope we had setup was super faithful.

Very little dirt stuck to the sheath... a little grey in some spots but nothing real noticeable.

I also felt like the core and sheath moved in unison, didn;t feel like the sheath was sliding excessively over the core strands.

Saw this thread get bumped, so did a quick Google. According to a 2011 video on Trango's YouTube channel they are the US distributor for PMI.

Also saw a statement to that effect on a caving site, but can't get much more authoritative than Trango itself.

Trango distributes dynamic ropes from PMI. PMI makes other rope products that are not distributed by Trango.

I have used PMI ropes for many years and have found them to be a fine rope. They do not kink like other ropes and are supple but to too much so.

I have two seasons on my Trango rope, lots of cragging and few big walls. It's just now starting to look a little used. I have been really happy with mine, its a 10.2, I forget what it's called. I plan on buying a 70m Trango this season. The only thing I found different about the trango ropes were how slick they are when new compared to others. It feeds through belay devices very fast, you really need to be on top of it for the first several uses until it breaks in. Other than that I have been very pleased. Kevin Mokracek

Anyone have any reviews on the Lotus? I cannot find ONE single review online. Which is frustrating. I am looking at the Lotus 9.9 70m....but after the last 2 years on a Sterling 9.4 ( Nano ) I don't really want to go up in thickness... all be it just a bit.

Anyone have any beta spray on this beautiful pink cord?

My friend has one and likes it a lot. I've had the 9.4 70 for a year and a half and its the most durable "skiinyish"line that I've used. Looks like his is built the exact same way so I would expect it to last as long or longer than my 9.4. Go for it! They're great ropes. (Better than the nano too, mine hasn't gotten as soft as my other buddies Sterling 9.4 nano)

I've been using the Trango Catalyst 9.0 for the last few months, and I love the handling the weight and the feel of it. Luc Ried

Well... I'll have to write my own review in a few months as my lotus arrives maņana. I'll have to wait since I ordered it last Saturday and immediately went out on popped some ring finger pulleys.

Good times, palm deep in face.

Goofin' on the Grand after soloing the Upper Exum ...
I've got both the 9.9 Lotus and the 9.0 Catalyst and like both of them. Both seem to be durable and resistance to wear. I've hammered on the Lotus in partciular and it seems like it's going to be a workhorse of a rope. I haven't hammered the Catalyst as much yet but I've used it on some rough rock and it has stood up well so far. Both have a stiffer feel and handling characteristic but they hold knots well and work well with both Grigris and ATCs. Plus, I love the colors with all of Trango's ropes. That's always a nice bonus. :) Michael Schneiter
