Eric and I nabbed, what we believe to be, the fourth ascent of 'Shock Treatment', a line up the North Face of Big Rock Candy Mountain. The line goes at 5.12+ and follows a left trending weakness on variable rock quality to the final 5.11 headwall pitch.

The line was first established in 1991 by K. McLaughlin and G. Schuler, and subsequently climbed in 1996, 2011 and now 2015 by us :)

For a pitch-by-pitch spray down, the full trip report is here: thrillseekersanonymous.com/….

Happy armchair adventuring!

Cheers,
ilana

I normally won't click on anything that is only a link to a blog. In this case, I'm glad I did.

Shock Treatment has been on my list since 2006. I'll get there one day.

Nice job. You mentioned a lot of falls, did both parties ultimately free all the pitches?

Looks awesome. I do have to say that I did not expect the broken finger spoiler alert. Gnarly!

Thanks for reading. We both free climbed the first 6 pitches, though we fell on P2 (exfoliating feet with 5.12+ ring locks) and P6 (one hell of an overhung offwidth on variable rock quality). I had to prussik up the last pitch because I broke my finger on the 6th pitch, but Eric free climbed it. The whole climb definitely goes free to the right even keeled person.

So what are you waiting for? We cleaned it up quite a bit, so you should probably get on it and tell me all about it :) Side note - nice screen name!
