Toughest rope

I am looking for a rope for a friend and he has a very specific list of requirements. First, it has to be 60m; second it has to be the most durable rope possible. He doesn't care how thick or stiff it is (within reason), he just wants it to withstand lots and lots of abuse, mostly top roping and occasional trad leading. Which rope would be the best fit for him?

My first rope was an Edelweiss 10.3mm 60m dynamic. Don't remember the name. It was fuchsia.

Good workhorse. Lasted a looong time too.

Anything over 10.5. Kind of an interesting request for a rope but it that what he wants. The larger the diameter the more durable it will be as the sheath will be thicker. I've been on a Beal 11mm before it was a nice rope and had a good feel for how heavy it was. He should know that he will be adding a couple if pounds to the weight by going for something so durable.

tell him to get the CHEAPEST 10mm-10.5mm he can find

there is no sense paying $$$$$ for the "toughest" rope around when ANY rope can be wrecked in the right (or wrong) situations ...

for example my mammut galaxy is generally considered a pretty darn tough rope .... but its $$$$ ... for the same price i can get 2 tendon smarts, pretty durable themselves ... the mammut wont last anywhere near twice a long as the cheaper smarts

you can find 10-10.3mm 60m ropes for around 100-130$ around all the time ...

as you can see by the rope "reviews" on this side ... almost every rope out there has had someone whos had issues with it

ropes are DISPOSABLE items if you climb enough

I agree with just getting a clearance 10.5 .... but, if he wants the beefiest, I have heard some damn fine things about the Yates/BlueWater big wall ropes (check out the sheath% on the 10.8 :

Sterling Marathon ropes are very durable. I have had six or seven of them.

Mamut makes some stout string

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
