Description Suggest change

Torre Trieste is the Southern outpost of the Cantoni Kamm, or subgroup, in the Civetta massif. It's impossible to miss, since it dominates the view on the approach to Vazzoler Hut. It simply looms larger and larger, the closer one comes to this massive tower. Several World Reknowned climbs grace the formation: The Tissi-Andrich>-Rudatis Route on the W. Arete (UIAA Gr. V+) is for us mere mortals; the Carlesso-Sandri, Direct S. Face Route, was for many years regarded as the hardest climb in the Dolomites (UIAA Gr. VI+, many pitons and much aid needed), 2100 feet of difficult climbing. The SE Arete is home to another Cassin Route: Cassin-Ratti (UIAA Gr. VI+). Both the Carlesso-Sandri and the Cassin-Ratti are regarded as significantly more challenging than the Cassin route on Cima Ovest.
The tower has no walk up route and descent is difficult. The "Normal" route alone, is difficult (UIAA Gr. IV+). The descent from the tower is an "Abseil Piste" involving up to 21, 40 meter rappels!
