Looking to get a li-ion rotary hammer drill and I see a lot of deals on reconditioned/remanufactured/refurbished power drills. Have people had good experiences with these? Is the previous drill/battery wear and tear worth the cost savings? If it matters I'm not looking to drill sport climbs in hard rock, mainly just anchors and mainly in desert sandstone.
Should be fine if from a good source. The drills aren't that expensive. It's that batteries that will cost you and I don't think you should buy used batteries. Unreliable. If the tool has been refurbished, I think it should come with a new charger and batteries or you'll end up with a rebuilt gun and a battery that only takes half a charge
I've seen lots of refurbished drills run strong and get the job done. From a construction viewpoint it seems that a refurbed drill from a quality manufacturer will have a long life. The biggest mistake I've seen is using dull bits.. Not the drill's fault.
In desert sandstone, for just anchors hand drilling isn't hard. You're probably tired of that nonsense now and want a drill.
But if it's just for a route here and there, only 2 bolts (maybe 3) at a time, you don't need a Bosch. Look at plain old drills that also have a hammer mode. That way you can put up a shelf in your house and assemble a greenhouse for your tomatoes with the same drill. Seriously. A POS 18V handheld with hammer mode will be more than adequate in Wingate for 6 bolts a day.
