Things I lost on Great White Book this past Saturday (6/13)

Hey all, it was my fist time to the Valley this past weekend and had a great time with the exception of losing a fair amount of stuff...

Firstly, the strap of my camera case ripped on my harness about ten feet away from the bolted belay on Great White Book sending my camera bouncing down into the endless flake. I lowered to look for it and my partners tried to search too on their way up but we never found it. If by some miracle it turns up I'd love to get the memory card off it at the very least. Losing the camera sucks but I'm super bummed to have lost my pictures from not only Tuolumne but the past month in general.

I also managed to lose my glasses at the dirt pull-off at the base. They're black Zenni glasses in a black Fossil case with a shitty zipper. I didn't realize they were missing until I went to camp that night but when I drove back the next day I didn't see them so I'm guessing someone found them? I'll try calling the park services too to find out if there's a lost and found.

Lastly, I met two girls (Maggie and Meg?) that work in the park who were climbing Hermaphrodite and I took their/your pictures. You left me your email address in a note on my car to send you the pictures, but not only did I lose my camera but I managed to lose your email address too. Sorry =/ I'll be back in a few weeks I'm sure so if you happen to see this and want to link up shoot me a message!

So that's the short list of stuff I managed to lose in one day. Figure resolving any of it is a crapshoot but it's worth a shot to post on here. Despite all that I had an awesome weekend and learned valuable lessons about jumping on climbs with an 'R' in the grade. That shit was stupid run out!

Good luck with that camera. Stranger things have happened. My camera magically dislodged itself from my harness when I was in the middle of chimneys of Epinephrine. Not only was it found and returned to me, but the dang thing still worked. How about that!

"Things I lost on the Great White Book...": Obviously not your pride! I have to give you props for being a total junk show and in spite of it still maintaining optimism that two ladies might want to meet up with you. Ha! Good luck with that!

Haha, it ended up being a total shit show of a day for me, but at least I didn't cheese-grate myself on that ridiculous climb. 5.3 finish my ass... it was a 30 foot traverse with what, one piece of pro off the belay? As for the girls, I just wanted them to at least know I really had intended to send them those pictures and I wasn't just some creeper taking pictures of them from the next route over.

Welcome to Tuolumne old-school friction routes. Never expect pro where you want it; never be surprised if there's no bolt at a move 2 number grades below the crux; don't be too surprised at run-outs. 20' is garden-variety common, but there are plenty of 40 and 60 footers to keep your interest. For example, P3 of The Coming (5.9) is "only" 5.6 chicken-heads. The only pro on the 160' pitch is a single bolt at 80'. The 5.6 first pitch of The Dike Route has 2 bolts on it. On P3 you get to do the crux 5.8+ friction moves a good 25' out.

So quit yer whining about the GWB!!!

^^^ Haha. Totally. South cracks third pitch has two small mid pitch cams in 180'. Probably 50' plus runouts.
