Description
This side of the canyon does not see the traffic you will find on the North Rim. I had the area all to myself with nary a soul. What makes it less noticed? I suppose many do not want to bother with the walk, when the other areas offer you to throw your rope down the cliff almost from your car. I like a little and sometimes a lot of seclusion, and the South Rim offers it nicely.
Getting There
200 meters South before you reach the bridge over Fremont Canyon; on your left you will see the start of a guard rail. Turn left off the road onto a field with a barbed wire gate pulled away. Drive through (high clearance vehicle preferred) for a mile until it ends at the South Rim. With the fire pit in place you have a nice camping spot waiting for you.
