Underworld Area - Mission Gorge

Description

A kind of "secret" area away from the crowds. This area sees little traffic as it is off the main trail. A good spot for some solitude on a busy day at The Gorge.

Getting There

A faint trail leads down to it from between Lunch Rock and Vawter's Dihedral area. The climbs are pretty much right below Vawter's Dihedral.

Joe's V-Slot. The best of two fun climbs combined.

Joe's V Slot 5.9  CA : San Diego County : ... : The Underworld
A culmination of the best of "Joe's 5.8" and "The V Slot". Traverse up and left using a nice hand crack that is the start of "Joe's 5.8". Pull up to the dihedral, clip the bolt and continue up the dihedral of "The V Slot". The crux is the last few moves....[more]   Browse More Classics in CA

The anchor bolts for the Under World have all been smashed. You can build a gear anchor but you will have to belay from the top.

There is still one anchor at the underworld that is awaiting hanger replacement. There is a difference between bolts and hangers.

Update - now they're all good.

"kinda secret area, sees less traffic" aka BEWARE of loose rock! Took a pretty serious tumble wrecking both my ankles and left wrist in the process whilst scrambling across the top of the formation to set up an top rope solo anchor.
