From Steve Grossman's posting on Super Topo:
The Templed Horizon

The North American Climbing History Archives (NACHA)and the Museum of Northern Arizona are pleased to announce the fourth annual Granitica Festival to be held on March 5-6, 2016 at the MNA auditorium located at 3101 North Fort Valley Road in Flagstaff, AZ 86001. The hours on Saturday and Sunday will be 10 am to 6 pm and admission will cost $20 with available seating limited to about 150. Tickets will be made available through the Vertical Relief Gym in Flagstaff in January.

The theme for 2016 is: The Templed Horizon- Grand Canyon Climbing. We will be examining the history of technical climbing in and around the Grand Canyon. This is a uniquely American climbing destination that has always offered a wilderness adventure to those in search of that kind of experience.

Scott Mac posted this info in a prior thread but it deserves its own mention.
(Hope to see you again there Scott?)

The dance card is rapidly filling.

If you have any interest in the history of climbing and have not had a chance to attend one of these Granitica Festival presentations, then you have really missed out. They are a lot of fun, very informative and full of camaraderie across the generations.

e.g.
Who did the first ascent of Granite Mountain?
We got to hear Tom Taber tell us about being a 16 year old kid who talked his mom into dropping him and his partner (name escapes me) off at the trail head and then coming back for them at dark. He then described thrashing up to the base of Chim Chimney and climbing it. If you think the approach is rough now, think about no trail. :-)

The past Granitica Festivals have been Granite Mountain, Fall 2012, Cochise Stronghold, Spring 2013, Baboquivari, Spring 2014.

This might be one incredible time because it might bring to light a number of previously unknown ascents. While a lot of the Canyon climbing is serious 3rd and 4th class routes, there are some unforgettable climbs there.
Assuming of course that you like climbing in Sedona...
Now add in and extra 2-3 days of humping.

Unlike prior festivals, I believe this one might include some recent climbs.

This will be awesome! I'll definitely be attending. A big thanks to Steve Grossman for all the effort in putting these together. I went to the inaugural fest for Granite Mountain and it was a blast. I'd never seen so many parties on the mountain all at once, and so cool that you could come down to the front porch afterwards and talk to the first ascentionists.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
