Big Boulder, just a bit downhill from Temple of Kali. Alabama Hills, CA.

We're waiting on permits now and will be in a better position to give an opening estimate once we're into construction -- sorry to not be more informative. Our best guess if things go smoothly is mid/late summer.

I guess you didn't bribe the city council.... Welcome to LA

looks like a really fun gym.... all the others in LA are short little deals.

Thanks, Guy. That's nice of you to say. It should be good.

By the way, you deserve a star on Hollywood Blvd in our eyes: we saw your interview in the Stoney Point documentary (and you made the trailer 2 m. 55 sec. in: www.stoneypointdocumentary.com/trailer.html). Hope we can get the documentary stocked and/or screened at the gym.

Cheers, and wishing you a happy New Year and a lot of climbing.

Can Tajo Slab. <br />Glenn Short down below.

I had very cordial email exchange with a Stronghold staff member yesterday. When I'm in LA which is fairly often, I sometimes bivy at my sister's pad in the Arroyo District of West Pasadena. The Stronghold appears to be +/- 15 minutes from her home so I'm thoroughly jazzed!

An amazing physical plant AND congenial management.

Best of luck to you SH!

i'm gonna check it out tomorrow. not a fan of the taped routes and i've been told they will be there for awhile. Not what i'd expect to see at a new gym but excited to check it out tomorrow.

yup they put tape below all the holds. that way they can use different color holds for the same route. i.e. a route could be a combo of yellow, green and blue holds, but then there is red tape just below all of them indicating it's a red route and all holds are on that route. it's really an economical decision. i don't like it, but it is what it is.

i went today and had a good session with some new to me climbers i met up with. they're getting their kinks worked out but it'll be good. i like the tall walls/routes, for me that is what is most important. lots of leading opportunities.

Routes are taped and interesting. As of two days ago, there was only one route per rope, but I think they are doubling up all the routes in the next few days.

45? ft walls and lots of Lead routes and you can lead most TR routes as well. Some mean looking cracks as well and an improvised lieback route in the corner against the wall.. Didn't get a chance to boulder but it looked like it would do the job and had top outs.

Worth a return visit for sure.
