Description Suggest change

Located in Camden Hills State Park directly above the Guide Wall, The Spot is currently the best option for bouldering in the Camden Hills. A good concentration of large boulders, often tumbled on one another, offer a variety of fun and challenging problems with generally good landings. You'll want to bring at least a couple pads as some of the best lines can be in the 15'+ range, especially at the Hidden Wall sector. The majority of the obvious lines have been climbed at this point, but some of the most impressive lines and faces remain unclimbed. The rock type is gniess, a very grippy, often sharp rock that is typical of the park. The climbing tends to follow exciting features: arêtes, grooves, cracks, slabs, and roofs. There’s plenty to go at in the lower grades, as well as being a fun and sunny place to simply hang out.

Getting There Suggest change

Head up the Carriage Road trail off rt 52 in Camden (Mountain Street). Stay left at the trail fork (The Carriage Road) and cross two small wooden bridges. Shortly after the second bridge, go left at a small cairn. This is the trail to the Guide Wall, which you will walk underneath as you hike up a steep gully for a couple hundred feet. Go across a small log bridge on the left, which leads you out of the gully, up a steep goat path, that takes you directly to The Spot in a short distance, arriving at the Geo Cache boulder. From there, the boulders go in a loose line of clusters for a couple hundred feet at roughly the same elevation. At the far end of the line is a lengthy faced boulder that's only about 8' tall and seemingly the last boulder in the area. But, about 150 yds away is the Hidden Wall, a most impressive specimen of a boulder/mini-cliff. To get there, keep following the faint trail that traverses the hillside away from the Spot area. Cross over a few rocky stream beds and the trail drops left into a short, steep gully that puts you at the base of the Hidden Wall boulder, again, about 150 yds from the main "Spot" area. The Hidden Wall is 15'+ high in spots, so extra pads and spotters are good to have! Enjoy!
