Description Suggest change

This is a hidden gem in 10 Mile Canyon with a few short but fun climbs. The climbing is different from other 10 Mile slabs, more vertical and featured. It is secluded and protected from sun by large old growth spruce trees. You will find seclusion when climbing here as such you will find the holds are not chalked up, but also lack of climbers means chips may break off, so bring a helmet.

Getting There Suggest change

Just after the West Frisco exit on I-70, look for the remains of the Excelsior Mine. Pull off and park next to the tailings. Walk West at the bottom of the tailings and look for the path to the top of the tailings pile. Continue West and look for a trail somewhat hidden by forest growth. This old miner's trail switchbacks up the side of the hill. If you miss the trail, it becomes an unpleasant scramble. At some point towards the top, the switchbacks stop and the trail heads more directly up. Keep your eyes open on the left for the still mostly hidden wall. Cairns mark the way. The trail needs improvement! Some mine cave-ins have made the miner's trail hard to follow. Keep moving/scrambling uphill and you will arrive after about 15 minutes of bushwhacking.
