The Joshua Tree Pit

Over the last ten years climbers have enjoyed unscheduled camping on land owned by a local climber just south of the village of Joshua Tree. This was our intention when we dug out “The Pit” so that neighbors would not be affected.

Since then the area has come to resemble a landfill and no one has found staying there to be enjoyable.

That was not our intention.

So that this will not continue we have restored the area to good condition and we wish to have the following rules followed by users. A sign will be put in place on the site to inform everyone.

If this does not work out to the benefit of all, our choice will be to close the area entirely.

We do not want to do this.

The Rules:

RESPECT THE NEIGHBORS!

Pick up your trash.

Pick up other peoples trash.

DO NOT LEAVE YOUR "PERSONNAL WASTE" on the property

Pitch tents out of view of the neighbors.

No storage of personal items on the property

Park cars out of the view of our neighbors.

Campfires are fine provided they are in the communal fire pit and provided they don't become bonfires.

Loud noise and music after 9:00 PM is NOT acceptable.

Be courteous of others staying at The Pit.

Glad to hear the pit is still open, let's hope we all can treat it with respect.

Funny to see this posted today. A couple days ago I tried to join the jtca to be able to use the pit, but when emailing the address listed on the site, I received a daemon error that said my email was rejected by the domain. Have any idea what I ought to do?

People had been circumventing the gate so I added a row of stones to stop it but a few larger stones would be good. I couldn't find big enough ones in th Pit proper so please if anyone has the time bring a big rock alone and add to "fence" I built.

Otherwise its currently nice and clean here. Also if anyone wants to climb over the next two weeks please PM me.

Sounds good, I wont be back in JT until Tues or Weds, I will PM you to set up a project time.

BTW, I was told people got some stuff stolen from there, stuff they left out when they were gone for the day, so FYI don't leave your shit out ;)

Nick... stolen when? Like in the last few days? Or is this some long past event?

Recently apparently, Clark Jacobs was telling me he had some tables stolen and someone had some gear taken.

Ha, +1 on the funny to see this. Last spring we took a road trip down from Seattle to climb JT... Couldn't find any entrance to the pit, and gave up, securing a nice place in the Walmark parking lot instead.

That said, well be coming back down this spring, and will try again! Had the same experience as Chris Norwood last year too.... What should we do to get access this spring Robert? :)
