Not only was it a community run space and gathering place for the local climbing community, it was the only serious training facility in the area. It's where guides and dedicated Gunks stewards could get strong and motivate newcomers. This space embodied the values of climbing better than any gym I've seen. If you can, please spread the word and contribute to the rebuild effort. Remember, even $10 could make all of the difference.
Also, If you are in the area, The Edge at Halfmoon is having a bouldering comp benefit on March 28th. If you can get up to the capital district, you should check it out!
I had only been a member for a few short months, but it didn't take long to see how special that place was, and how much it still means to the community. I still get all choked up when I drive by the wreckage. Can't wait until we're ready to start the rebuild.
