Description Suggest change

Beyond Ngong hills out side of Nairobi lies THE FROG, a great sport climbing area just inside the Rift Valley. This area has about 200 climbs, mixed sport and trad, 5.4-5.13 testpieces and some projects that remain. The grading system is the Australian 2-30 numerical system as opposed to the Yosemite Decimal System. 16-18 is 5.9-5.10 or so. 20-22 is getting into 5.11 plus etc. The rock is orange gneiss. All solid, volcanic in origin. Most of the high-quality climbs are hard (5.11 and above).

For a great small pocket book guide book and beta on how to get there, check with the Mountain Club of Kenya mck.co.ke

Getting There Suggest change

Tricky to find and access is sensitive, so contact the mountain club of Kenya before going. The crag is located on a military post.

Go to Ngong hills town and go through to Rift Valley entrance, you'll hit a dirt road, follow to turn-off to shooting range (unmarked). Crags are NOT visible from the road so go with someone who knows the location or get detailed instructions.
