Description Suggest change

Seeps and drainage flow, with an honest-to-goodness small waterfall. Belay on the frozen Kaaterskill Creek; very tricky belaying otherwise if the Creek isn't frozen. Very short routes, ranging from WI1+ to WI3-; tallest route perhaps 30 feet. This area can get VERY windy, with the wind getting channeled down the gorge. Very quick approach, but take all precautions - the slope is steep, and the Creek is at the bottom. The area is a viable option for a small group (3-4) of people to TR, when there isn't any room at Asbestos Wall or Moore's Bridge - either in the parking lot or on the wall.

Location Suggest change

Follow Rte 23A through Palenville; as you exit Palenville and drive across the first, small bridge, there will be a parking lot just past that on the right, part-way up the hill. It can accommodate three cars, if people are polite. Park there. Directly over the guardrail, you'll see a drainage; that drainage leads to the main ice in The Chasm. Walk back down the road to where there's an open area in the slope; carefully hike down the slope to get to the bottom. It's not a bad idea to rappel to get to the place to set up anchors for the routes. If neither option is preferable, one can walk all the way back to the bridge, then slog along the riverbank to the routes.

Protection Suggest change

Typically toproped but will take screws.
