DescriptionBouldering crag. While the North Island isn't known for its bouldering, those of us that don't like ropes are still in luck. The limestone formations at the Airstrip offer a decent range of boulder problems (up to V10). If your really after a world class bouldering experience, head down to castle hill in the south island. Getting ThereWaitomo village is 40mins south west of Wharepapa south, or 1 hour south of Hamilton. From Waitomo village head west down Te Anga road for 10-15 mins. Soon after passing Hauturu road on the right, you will see a sign on the left "Awatiro/Stubbs farm". Head up the gravel driveway. Boulderers have been requested to park on the south side of the airstrip, on your left as you drive in. From the carpark it is a short walk to the various areas. Sit start. A super pumpy roof traverse starting in the back corner of the cave. Traverse out of the cave being careful to make the most of any heel hooking opportunities that present themselves. Finish on the big plate at the end of the roof (see picture). A bat hang is possible near the start of the problem, but isn't that useful (mostly used by people to show off).
