Went to lake city yesterday to scope conditions. Funny enough we saw a guy from Gunny doing the exact same thing. Conditions were worse than expected but we still hoped on the first pitch of shermam on TR. Here are some pics (sorry they are cell phone pics) to destroy anyones confidence of climbing in this area this weekend.
Firt pitch.

The whole climb as seen from the road. You can see the third pitch is just barely starting to form. It's gonna be a little while.

Anyways I have a few other areas in mind to check out this weekend.

Aaron, The parking at the restrooms IS open. I'm trying to get permission for cars to be parked alongside the Frontage Road. Notice all the cars (skiers, snowboarders ) that park alongside the road when the Vail garages are full. Those cars rarely, if ever get ticketed. At the moment if it isn't posted you are supposed to be able to park along the Frontage Road. BUT when CDOT doesn't plow far enough over, cars can't be parked there because they are partly in the road. All that needs to happen is for the plows to go far enough over so there is enough room for people to park. The problem is more complicated than that but it involves the city of Vail, Vail and Associates, CDOT and more. For the moment the only two spots we can park without receiving a parking ticket is Booth Creek Trailhead and the area by the restrooms. Anywhere else you receive a parking ticket. Just chalk the $20 up to the admission fee to climb ice in Vail........... Fill your cars up with climbers and split the ticket 4 ways.......

Hi Guys,

you can also park at the free parking lot on the south side of the E Vail exit (as you tourn into Big Horn Road towards East Vail, right around the corner from I-70, as soon as you start heading east.)From there you can head straight to the East Vail Ice or even catch the Bus (15min intervals in winter ski season) towards the Booth Falls Stop to go across to the Ampitheatre climbs. The bridge was washed out by the river last June, but on an average winter you can cross it over frozen ice/snow. Even now is so low you can step on rocks. The bridge by the bathrooms is your other option.

The Vail Mountain School will tolerate cars in their first lot on weekends (eventhough the sign says no) as long as you do not enter the big parking lot meaning you have to park pretty much behind the Vail public bus stop.

Eli on the FA of Grizzly (M9) at the Den.
Dreamweaver should be good to go by April/May with typical best conditions in June. Just very soft snow and rock until then...maybe take a look at my recent conditions report here for some beta.

Scott,

You sleep in until 3am? I'm usually half way to Chasm Lake by then.
HA! This might just be the dump we need to get some ice forming. Stuff that gets some sun in the am like Mt. Lady Washington, AMU could be possibilities for saturday. Maybe something on the North Face of Meeker although it could be so cold up there that melting/freezing isn't happening...........

In case it wasn't obvious in Kevin's post...we recommend at least bringing flotation in the Park right now, esp off the main snowshoe crowd routes. We postholed for hours and didn't even get close to the base. On the plus side there is trench now heading towards Notchtop. More pictures when I can go download them. Chris Plesko

If you got about 15 Americans together and shared rent on a one room cottage, you might be able to afford living there!!!
