My friend and I are planning a trip to Wyoming July 10-22. I was hoping to be able to summit something in the Tetons before we head out to Ten Sleep for the rest of the trip, but neither of us has solid ice axe skills. With this year's snowpack, what are the chances something like Durrance Ridge on Symmetry Spire or the East Ridge of Disappointment peak would be dry by then? Are there similar routes that might have a better chance of being snow-free?
The east ridge of Disappointment peak is totally dry right now, but unless you rap the route, you will need an axe today, as far as mid July, ill bet you will be fine with the walk off. As far as symmetry, my guess would be that there will still be snow in the approach gully and the descent gully by the SW ridge, but possibly avoidable. hard to tell a month + out...
The snow is melting fast, as it has been warm in the valley the last two weeks. Also all the south facing rock in Death canyon is dry as the trail up to the waterfall is hike able in shoes.
Not sure what difficulty you are looking for, but the east face of Teewinot can be climbed (with only a straightforward snowfield crossing) in a day. No gear necessary, mostly a scramble.
