Access Issue: PLACING BOLTS IS ILLEGAL IN THE SUPERSTITION WILDERNESS!
Details
In the early '90's the USFS banned all placement of bolts in the Superstition Wilderness. This unfortunately includes replacement of existing bolts. Violating this ban may result in climbing restrictions on this beautiful area. Please think twice and go bolt somewhere else.
Description
A quiet, shady area that sees very little traffic. The rock quality varies from good to great depending on the route. Expect to also climb on some very loose sections and be willing to share the crag with the vultures that roost among the walls. If birds are present, show some respect and go climb on Barks Canyon Wall.
Getting There
Take the Bluff Springs Trail to the Barks Canyon Wall climbing area. Continue north on the trail for about a mile and Terrapin Throne will appear on the East side of the trail. It is a short uphill hike to reach the base. If you get to the Terrapin/Bluff Springs trail junction you have walked a bit too far. From the parking lot to the base of the climbing area it takes about 45 minutes.
