Heading out to go climbing in and around the Keene Valley region in July. Does anyone know of any good tent sites or established primitive camping locations?

There are primitive spots that are marked right at the base of the Chapel Pond slabs that are pretty convenient for most cragging around Keene Valley. If you park and follow the "approach" to the slabs you'll see the spots. It's basically right next to the road.

you can't camp within 150' of a trail or water. Anywhere else in the adk park is fair game. fyi... I think it's 3500' you can't start a fire, but don't quote me on that. Right near chapel pond is Giant Mtn wilderness, on the maps theres a couple lean-to's, as well as some others around that area. Adirondack Rock, book, has a ton of suggestions for that stuff. adirondackrock.com/

Though you might be hard pressed to get a hard copy since it's out of print right now... Msg me if you'd like some other areas close by to the chapel pond for camping/climbing.. Have fun bro!

As mentioned, anyplace not within 150ft of trail, road, water, (that isn't marked with a DEC yellow camp here disk) or with a yellow no camping disk is legal below 3500ft.

So any state land either marked for camping or is not otherwise illegal with some sensible exceptions.

keep it low impact and have fun.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
