With all the road construction going on, the usual camping seems to be shut down. I would prefer to camp above the Mondo/FCR... anyone found any decent spots towards Meadowlark Lake etc...?

Anyone know when the construction is supposed to be finished? I'm heading out there end of July...will we be alright to camp on the old road?

The construction is supposed to be finished at the end of October. Right now its blocking the upper gate to the old road, so I doubt that the road will open before the project is complete.

It's not actually blocked, but the gate is still closed. Migration route or something?

No, its not physically blocked, but since its in the section that consists of three miles of alternating one way traffic led by a pilot car I don't think they'll want people using it. I suppose we'll see soon.

The road is under construction for:

"Grading, bituminous pavement surfacing, chip seal, wetland construction, MSE retaining wall, removal and replacement of box culverts, guardrail, and miscellaneous work."

You're probably right. I've been there the last two weekends and there hasn't been a pilot car situation... Are you still at Devils Tower?

So, is the main parking area for Mondo/Slavery/FCR still open, or is that in the middle of the construction, too?

Parking is fine. The construction begins just upcanyon of the main lot.

Still at Devils Tower for another crack-filled season.

Based on what I saw last week, the camping just off Rt 16 above the Mondo parking lot is probably permanently gone. They logged and tore up the whole area, but to what end I'm not sure.

Any update on the road situation? Can you access the old rd. camping now or no? Any beta on alternate camping if its closed? Thanks

You can access the old road from the bottom of the canyon. Go past the Tensleep creek campground and fish hatchery.

great thanks, now that I look at the map that seems to be a stupid question

Access is a non-issue when I was there a few weeks ago. The upper old-highway entrance is completely open just past the dirt pile.

was just there tues. access at bottom is normal. there is a bout a hundred to two hundred yard of construction before you can turn off. talk to the flagger, tell em your going there. or just wait (wait time could be up to fifteen min) deer lodge is just on the other side of construction.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
