I will have the opportunity to extend a non-climbing trip for an additional long weekend of climbing. I will be within 3 hours of Moab and it looks like the high temps will be in the high 30's. Is this warm enough to climb for the better part of a day or do i need to look for something farther south and/or west?

Obviously you need a lot of sun. If it's a bluebird day and you climb well in the cold than go for it. If it's cloudy at all it's going to be COLD! And even on a sunny day a bit of wind can freeze you.

Where will you be in relation to Moab? It will definitely be too cold for any towers unless you're a badass which leaves IC, Potash, and I think there is another area close to Moab. IC like an hour south of Moab and it probably the best option. I've never climbed at Potash but maybe someone who has will post up about it.

There are sheltered areas at IC in case of wind but I don't remember what they are. I'd say go to Supercrack and/or Donelly Canyon/Battle of the Bulge because of the short approach and sun options but the sun goes down behind the mountain around 4pm there right now, maybe earlier.

Scarface, Broken Tooth, Cat Wall, Way Rambo, The Wall, and some of the Meet Walls get good sun... not sure the exact hours though.

Have fun!

Even with the sun, it's brrrrrr in the high desert right now.

If you are any where close to Moab it's cold as hell. Highs are hardly getting above freezing.

Coming from western Colorado. Any thoughts on what would be the best option for finding good conditions within 4-5 hours or so of Montrose?

I will be really close to Ouray and lots of other CO ice, but being from Kentucky we seem to only have picks for our banjos.

I have been watching the weather through this cold spell and it looks like Shelf Road is the warmest. They are supposed to be in the fifties and sunny over the weekend.

went to the swell yesterday for a few laps. south facing walls in buckhorn were managable in the sun, and bouldering in triassic was good as well. some top outs were snowy, but everything was dry. 0 degree sleeping bag + bouldering pad + tent = :-)

Bouldered Sunday at Big Bend Cold, but doable. As long as your climbing your fine. The Temps are supposed to warm up at the end of the week going into the weekend. If you have never been to Moab/IC then I say sack up and come on down. On a side note Ouray is so close and you can rent all the gear you need. If you have not climbed ice before it is quite fun, and I can't think of a better place to learn than the Ice Park!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
