BETA PHOTO: Tatooine from the approach trail. ?Jabba?...

Description

Tatooine is a group of crags perched atop a small hill west of the Fairview Dry Lake in Northeast Apple Valley. The rock type is similar to that found at the Apple Valley Crags.

Getting There

From Hwy 18: go north on Joshua Road, east on Cahuilla Road (dirt), north on Mountain View Lane (dirt). From here follow a network of dirt roads (stay on established roads) slightly further north and west into the valley where the crags are visible on top of the hill. A 4WD vehicle is recommended but an adventurous party could probably get a 2WD back there without much difficulty.

This fairly obscure area has about 30+ routes on a rocky hillside to the west and across the dry lake bed from M-ville. Just to reiterate, the rock here is mostly nice dark patina and very similar to the better stuff found at the nearby Horseman's Center in Apple Valley.

Don't be put off by the approach as the road isn't that bad and 2WD is adequate unless you drive a lowrider.

I heard that Fairview is a separate 'secret' area. I also heard there was like a 100 foot 5.6 sport climb somewhere around there too. Anyone know anything about this?

the 100ft. 5.6's are on a cliff called "Alessandra", at the far south-east end of the valley, across from marg.ville. As far as I know, routes were put up by C.Miller
