HUMAN WASTE Human waste is one of the major issues plaguing Red Rocks. The Las Vegas Climbers Liaison Council and the AAC provides free "wag bags" in several locations (Black Velvet, First Pullout, Kraft Mtn/Bouldering, The Gallery, and The Black Corridor). These bags are designed so that you can pack your waste out - consider bringing one to be part of your kit (just like your rope and shoes and lunch) no matter where you go. Once used, please dispose of them properly (do not throw them in the toilets at the parking area).
Description
East above one of the largest "tanks" (depression that collects rain-water - "tinaja") in the Calicos.
Top section is white limestone, and it's the second (or third?) highest peak in Calico Hills proper.
. . . (more info see on SummitPost).
Some possible climbing routes:
* WSW face - from near the tank - (see variation on SummitPost.org)
. . . (? perhaps leave the CT trail around (N36.1613 W115.4386) W of the big tinaja, say 250 ft before below the Pass, then around the NW + N sides of the tinaja, up roughly ENE then NE to the summit ?)
* SSW face - from near Calico / Tank Pass.
* traverse from Red Cap from NW - (more difficult and trickier than it looks).
Getting There
Quickest way is from Sandstone Quarry using the Calico Tanks trail for approach, then scrambing to the summit from the southwest or west.
