On October 23, 2015 at the American Mountaineering Center in Golden, there will be the screening of the movie, THE GRAND RESCUE. The Grand Rescue is a story of a rescue that became legend. In 1967, on the North Face of the Grand Teton, seven rescuers risked their lives to save a severely injured climber and his companion. The rescue took three harrowing days and pushed the team to new abilities.
In 2011, members of the Alpine Rescue Team and the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group traveled to Jackson, Wyoming to assist Swirl Productions in the filming of the documentary about the 1967 rescue on the Grand Teton. Historical and authentic rescue equipment and clothing from the 1960s was provided by these two organizations to assist in this production.
All proceeds from THE GRAND RESCUE are going to help fund the upcoming Capital Campaign for the Colorado Mountain Rescue History Center, the first and only archival, museum and education facility dedicated to Mountain Search and Rescue in the United States. Along with being the current headquarters of the Alpine Rescue Team, this new expanded facility will serve as a center showcasing artifacts, equipment and documents collected from all of the Mountain Rescue Teams in Colorado.
