DescriptionBeing centered in the heart of the action like its namesake, The Cloth House in Krakow, it takes on the feeling of a city square. Tucked in between other popular rocks, and packed with a high concentration of quality routes, no wonder Sukiennice is a crowded natural center of climbing activity. There are about 70 routes, up to 100 feet tall, with a range of difficulties from easy to 5.14. Many of the good lines are bolted, but there are still some worthy routes left to be climbed on gear. Getting ThereOne of the first crags encountered if approaching on the main trail. Located on the Western flank of Sokoliki, Sukiennice is right in between Krzywa Turnia (home to some of the longest routes @ 35 meters), and Chatka (a smaller, but no less popular destination). From a switch-back on the main approach trail, there is a climber's trail that heads straight up to the rocks. This one is easily identified by the giant cross on the ground (also pictured on the cover of the guide book). Nitka 5.9+ International : Europe : ... : Sukiennice
Nitka has steep, pumpy, and great varied moves. Unfortunately it is also a bolted crack. I know some would be infuriated by this but I fully enjoyed clipping my way up this one...(The giant block/flake that forms the crack is completely detached, so maybe the bolts are a good idea. Either way your belayer would be crushed if it came off... so try not to think about that and enjoy!) ...[more] Browse More Classics in International |
