Description Suggest change

The lowest of the Deception Crags, Substation is a quarter-circle of rock on the west bank of Change Creek, just below the first bridge on the IHT. It is the lower part of the Write-off Rock massif. The steeper climbs are similarly slippery, but the longer slab climbs have a bit more grippy rock. At the corner/middle of the crag (left of Homo Erectus) is a mini waterfall that sometimes freezes in winter, and keeps the nearby routes drippy until deep into sunny days. Substation has a mix of moderate .10s and more beginner climbs. While the belays are always shaded, some of the longer routes will pop out to sunshine.

Getting There Suggest change

Follow the trail from the pullouts up past the Deception Glade boulders. Keep left instead of going up to the GoodFallWall boulder, and you'll see Substation before walking up to the trail.
