Hello,

I recently had draws stolen off of the route "Weapons of Mass Destruction" at the Riverside Quarry. The route starts up on a ledge to the left of the "Metro Sector." The route is not easy to get to and is 5.13a so someone worked pretty hard to get them.

If you hear anything please let me know (matthew.hulet@yahoo.com) stay safe and watch your gear.

I'm seven on the roll out but ten on hard. Next time, take your draws with you.

Also, isn't it kind of hard to "watch your gear" when you leave it at the crag?

It looks like someone found some draws at the quarry, you might want to see if they're yours or not.

There has been a party working that route on the last couple of weekends that I've been out there. This past sunday and sunday a couple weeks ago a crew was up there including a dark haired young lady (I'd guess mid/late 20s, possibly early 30s), she was working the route both times. Sorry, didn't catch her name, but if you know Darrell Logan (older guy who used to work at ThreshHold)he was up there with them the first weekend that I noticed them on the route, maybe ask him?

The thing isn't hard to get to, I've soloed onto and back down from that ledge several times. And let's be real, the rating means nothing when you have a stick clip. I'd never take fixed draws myself, hope you get them back.

How are draws stolen when you leave your shit. If I actually went to the quarry I would of taken the draws myself under finders keepers. Frankly I think its dumb when people leave their shit on walls and expect it to be there, your draws aren't "stolen" they were "found" you were just careless with your property.

Wow there's a bunch of morons on Mon proj if you steal fixed draws you are the lowest of the low and deserve an ass whooping. Seriously what's wrong with people would you steal sharmas draws off his project to. Hey Bob just cause you can't send harder than 5.10 doesn't give you the right to take fixed draws off a route you couldn't even conceive of climbing. I hope I see you at a crag taking draws down.

Do people projecting a trad route leave their gear on the wall?

^^^THIS. And not just "fixed" draws, but projecting draws. Only gear I'd take off a crag is stuff obviously forgotten at the base (I've gotten two cameras back to owners this way) or bail/stuck gear.

Anyone talking about how they'd STEAL draws hanging at a SPORT CRAG where this is common and accepted practice, is just trying to rationalize being a douchebag and thief.

well, let's think about this for a minute, what's the difference between a trad and a sport route? A trad route is climbed from the ground up, placing protection on the way up, whereas a sport route is protected from the top down with the gear left in place prior to the ascent. So the answer to your question is no, if the gear is left on the wall the route is no longer a trad route for that particular ascent, it becomes a sport route, or as it is commonly called these days, a sprad route.

I'm certainly not defending either Gary or Louie, but lets think about this rationally, it's a freaking QUARRY, every hold on the wall is man made, the earlier chipping was just on a much larger scale.

When the quarry is the closest rock to where you live and you can get a good workout there, I see absolutly no reason to boycot it.
