This is the type locality of the Lyons Sandstone, which is the geological equivalent of the Wingate. The Lyons Sandstone also composes the Rotwand Wall in Eldo and South Gateway and Kindergarten in the Garden of the Gods. At Steamboat Mountain, the rock more closely resembles the sandy Wingate.
This is above and east of US Hwy 36, just northwest of Lyons.
