anyone have opinions about fitting crampons on a 42.5 nepal evo? was thinking about the petzl lynx. bc sabertooth fits my needs as well. want for ice and mountaineering
I've got 42.5 Nepal Evos and I find that the Lynx's don't fit quite as well as the Cyborgs. The front part of the Lynx is a little too long, such that the back downpoints extend into your instep and limit the amount of rocker when walking. This isn't a problem if you're just using them for cragging, but if you're planning to do any alpine climbing or glacier travel in them, it really gets annoying.
The Cyborgs fit the best, only potential downside is that the toe-bail is a little wider than the front rand on the boot. If the fit isn't very tight, they can slide around a little bit. I solved this by fitting my Cyborgs with the front bail from my Lynx, and that's perfect.
i wear same boots in same size, exactly same size. i just tried the grivel g12 in the cramponomatic. yes the one with the metal toe bail and after moving bail back to second set of holes and tuning the back lever i got a really nice tight/secure fit with no gaps. have not yet used them but i have tried the lynx and sabertooth pro and i like the grivel better. i am going to try the newmatic binding next and make a choice soon. let me know if you find anything that works well for you.
