So I live higher in elevation than at Zion and I can't even bear it here! Is there a secret spot (like top secret only people with internet access would know) where temps are tolerable and the rock is tall? I was on google earth and found some Northern aspect stuff in Kolob Canyon.

Maybe I should take up canyoneering. Havn't done that yet.

Canyoneering in Zion is great...and it'll help with rope skills, not that you need help but it helps me and you get to play in the water which mitigates ye old heat.

The coolest place in that area is the Cathedral...it doesn't meet the criteria of tall and its sport but its the best limestone I've climbed (I haven't been to Thailand yet) and its in the shade ALL DAY LONG.

Go ask the girl that works at the shop "Zion Rock" in Springdale (left side o the road on the way into the park) I can't remember her name but she is super nice and helpful. They have appox. 6 huge binders full o topo's...there should be something in there on Kolob too.

Other than that I doubt anyone will speak up too much...traffic in the Park is super low even when the temps are reasonable and something tells me they want to keep it that way. Less spray = less traffic.

what about that Smoot route up the "backside" of GWT? that might be bearable this time of year.

Yeah the Tunnel Crag area will be in the shade most of the day but it's tops 3 pitches...and will still be warm unless you go on overcast day or right after a storm.

Does anyone know of any routes in the 'fridge canyon?

Kevin, there are a lot of beautiful single-pitch climbs in Cedar Canyon, high enough in the Cedar Mountains that it doesn't get TOO hot. Have you been there? I no longer live in the area, but my old climbing partner does. He's not on MP, but if you're interested, PM me and I'll get in touch with him for you. If your profile is accurate, he's probably pretty close to your level of climbing.
