| So, this last weekend I headed up to the sandstone Mecca that is Zion and was continually blown away by the beauty and accessability of this amazing park. My buddy and I headed over to climb the Organasm, that roof crack has been calling my name for years and low and behold what do we find at the base? Some of the lamest graffitti smeared all over the first 25ft of the route. See the pic I posted over on the Organ page in Zion (sorry Larry). http://www.mountainproject.com/v/utah/zion_national_park/the>>>>> I don't usually endorse ass kicking, but damn, it seems that whoever did this was blatantly disrespectful to a beautiful area and to other climbers in general. Pretty sure no one other than climbers could have gotten up high enough on the stone to perpetrate this, way to go losers. Hopefully NPS or some hikers to don't find this and totally screw climbers in the park forever. If you know who the "artists" are that did this please educate them on their poor decisions and ask that they never climb again. Sorry that Dustin and I couldn't get it scrubbed we had plans to but ran short on time. | |

| I looked all over for your photo on the Organasm page.
It's not there. It's on the Organ page.
Really, really stupid on someone's part.

WE have to get on this now.
If the NPS sees this shit we are screwd. Wait a minute I call bull shit- no climber would do this. ( photo chopp)

If this is indeed real and you're really looking for an idea, Super Soakers work real well for removing chalk from rocks. I wish I was in the area to help you out...again, if it's actually there.
Good luck.

Well, by posting this on the inter-web they just might find out. You know, climbing rangers do frequent this site.

| I get annoyed at tick marks, wads of tape, litter, etc.
This, I can't hardly believe. Of course an ass kicking would be in order but what do you suppose the motivation behind this was? I mean what would possess someone to even go to the trouble?

| Does anbody have the phone number to the climbing shop in springdale, Or do you know any locals in the aera?
I know the head of the BC office and she would be stoked to help us out with this.

| Thank you that helps alot. John should be calling me back soon.
I hope we can get this cleaned up soon.
I still would like to talk to Dale at the climbing shop. But I cant find the number anywhere.
If I cant get some locals together in the next week for the clean up then I will head down.

| Dean Hoffman wrote: Good point "thelarry" sure wouldn't want any of them parkies thinking that climbers don't condone this type of bs and definitely wouldn't want anyone to think that climbers would take steps to clean it up and demonstrate their appreciation of the area. Thanks to whomever is able to scrub this down. As I said I wish we would have been supplied to do it but we were not.
Dont mind The Larry, You cant fix stupid right??? Larry why dont you go fix this?? Before the rangers see it.

Maybe because I'm too stupid. You should ask the OP the same question. He was right there after all. Plus it looks like you've got your white hat and faithful horse Trigger all fed and ready to go down there and clean up that mess. Good for you. I wish more were like you. BTW how'd the clean up go down here in Moab?

| I'll ask around tomorrow. I work during the day but maybe if it hasn't been dealt with yet I could get up into the park in the afternoon. Some people just don't realize how sketchy our climbing "privileges" in Zion are. *jackasses* | |

| I have the day off and live in the park, I will go clean it up. | |
By Brad Brandewie Sep 8, 2008
| Wow!
It's hard to comprehend how unbelievably stupid it was to do that.
I hope we find out who was responsible.

Thanks for offering to clean this up. Zion is a special place and needs to be treated as such.
Cheers

| Anyone know if this got taken care of or not...I was in the park today but completely forgot to look. | |
By Eric Delynko From Las Vegas, NV Sep 15, 2008
| Yup, it's still there as of 9/14.
If you're looking for it, you can see it from the road, which is mighty lame.
By Dan Snyder From Virgin, Utah Sep 16, 2008
| Shit, I knew I should have checked before I went up canyon last weekend. I'll check back and if it hasn't been cleaned I'll do it this Friday. | |

| After 2 and a half weeks of posts about the graffiti with no action taken, the NPS stepped in and took care of it. | |
