| Doug S- Oh good Lord, don't tell me this BS is rearing its ugly head again. I thought the feud has been over for awhile now. I subscribe but have not received #25 yet, nor is it on their website. | |

| la la la la la la.....I am not gonna get involved in thissss.......Woo Sahhhh.....Wooooo Sahhhh....
Anyway...
Joey...let's do that man, for real. We may have to accomodate the geographically challenged...(you know who you are), but I'm down. Pick a spot.
Most of us are familiar with the T-Wall camp spot. It accomodates dirtbags, alcohol, campfire antics, and drunken night bouldering pretty well. And who can resist Shuford's ?!
Anybody else wanna weigh in here ????

| Joey Wolfe wrote: T-Gorge 2nd, what is the favorite? And yes, I'm down for whatever this fall. PM soon to follow. I'm suprised I've never run in to Paul, Paul I live down in Dunwoody, we should hit up Stannard's Crack, I lead it but I haven't been back to repeat it and would like to. We need to do like the guys out on the front range and have a MP.com beer night. Little hard for the us in the SE to pull off. So maybe an overnighter with some climbing and drinkn' one weekend soon. T-Gorge, Looking glass, or Chatty/t-wall, Sandrock/jamestown. I'd be down for any of these spots. Where ever is easiest for all who want to to come. Climbing, Camping and Kegs, any takers??
Favorite ever: Glen Clova, Angus County, Scotland...
Favorite in the SE: Tallulah, then Laurel Knob...
And, hey! EVERY NIGHT IS BEER NIGHT...but, if we all want to get togther, I am down. I am agreeable to any of those destinations. I can give the Alabama tour, we could do the TWall campground thing (I'll bring the chainsaw), Tallulah (that campground is super clean), North Carolina, wherever...

| Beer, climbing and camping? I'd do Tallulah or Laurel if I could tag along. Pretty please? | |
By Jeff Mekolites From HOTlanta, GA Aug 27, 2008
| All this talk of climbing, beer and bbq is getting my hands sweaty...lets pick a place and time. And hopefully not in the next two weeks... Tallulah might be hot until late fall/winter. Laurel or anywhere in NC would be nice...
Oh, there is something similar to a MP beer night coming up this Tuesday. It is the ACC meeting at HARP Pub in Norcross....great beer selection, lots of climbing talk and planning. Let me know if you want details.
Haven't got my alpinist yet...but I heard LK was going to be in this issue...through the grapevine...

| I'm a capable trad leader (comfortable on 9s and 10s), but don't have much multi-pitch experience. I'd really love to tag along on an Laurel Knob trip. If anyone has an open spot for a weekend LK trip, let me know. | |

| Doug S - I'm going to make a quick reply in the hope that this thread doesn't get sidetracked.
I don't think my few posts equate to being "all over this topic".
I've got nothing but respect for the folks on either side of that controversy.

| Beer night: Someone pick a time and place and I'm down...like Jeff, I need some notice...and I'll be in Utah mid-October...how about November for y'all? Or is that too far out?
Sean, have you climbed much at Tallulah?
The camping at LK is awesome...nicely secluded, but only a few minutes from groceries and restaurants...just buy your beer before you hit the NC lines...it's bone dry til Brevard.
Then, there is Chattanooga...mucho rock, mucho beer and food options...mucho tweakers.
Tallulah would be nice to camp at the campground for the amenities, or in the woods below Currahee...but then there's the variable of permit issuance, water releases, etc...

| I am hesitant to say more because of the previous history - I just wanted to let the SE know we made it in Alpinist - which is nice.... | |

| Ben- been to Tallulah twice. Once to paddle where I was handed my worst butt kicking to date and once to climb. Got on some classic moderates and loved it. Fairly close to home too which is nice.
As to the Alpinist thing- the feud is over. Let's keep it that way.
By Joey Wolfe Aug 28, 2008
| So it seems like there is some interest in a MP planned shindig. Lets keep the ideas rolling here. I planted the seed but I am bad at planing.
The ideal place would have a campsite large enough to accommodate around 20(I'll probably bring some dudes that don't post on here), have easily accessible cragging so we can switch partners, goof off, and be more relaxed than say at LK were the size of the rock and the hike would require a little more commitment(but if commitment is what the people want...) and some what of a centralized location.
Ben, outside of sandrock, are there any other good spots to camp where we could easily access Jamestown, Griffin Falls, and (in quit tone of voice)... that other place?
So lets here it on these ideas:
Alabama-Lookout Mountain Area Chattanooga-T-wall or somewhere else (less crowded) in Penitence Cooper SP NC-Looking Glass or LK/Whitesides area T-Gorge-I'm not sure how rowdey we could get at their campsites?
September seems short notice, I'll be in Colorado in Oct, so how does one of the first two weekends in Nov. sound?
Lets get a show of hands | |

Paddling, eh? That's what keeps me out alot of the time...them stinkin' water releases...

Word...
Joey Wolfe wrote: Ben, outside of sandrock, are there any other good spots to camp where we could easily access Jamestown, Griffin Falls, and (in quit tone of voice)... that other place?.
There are a couple "other places"...I assume you mean the steep one? Sandrock is pretty central, but I hate that place as much or more than the next guy for camping. Desoto offers good camping, but not enough for 20...I'll think about it a bit.
November should work for me...Chattanooga looks like the best spot given more than a few attendees.
By Paul Barnes From Gainesville, Georgia Aug 28, 2008
| Second the motion for Chattanooga, but ya'll knew that.
Having lived years of my life there and cut my teeth on that steep Sandstone, it shouldn't have been hard to figure which way I was leaning.
Somebody check those management hunt dates at Prentice Cooper. We can act like as big a bunch of idiots as we want too out there. Or there's more touristy pay camping convenient to Sunset, 20-30 minutes from T-wall, and 30-40 minutes from Fosters/Castle Rock if vandalism and tweekers are a concern for anybody. We had no problems up there last year though.

| Oh yeah Ben...I'm 150 lbs of pure intimidation.
Then again...you're either predator or prey, soooo......
But I digress....
Let's do this thing! Chattanooga has been moved and seconded...all in favor ??
Then there's the matter of which weekend. I think the ACC has a trip the second weekend which might let Jeff out, so how bout the first weekend?
Jeff...be sure to tell Gary and John, will ya?

I haven't heard anybody mention Sand Rock; if you're talking about camping, climbing and beer, how could you go anyplace else? We can show Sean and the other NC guys how to do a porta potty bonfire!

| The LK feature in Alpinist is a photo essay with a few words from Jonathan about his first climbing experience at Laurel back in the day. It does not discuss any past "issues" or drudge up any controversy, and that is how we wanted it. Hopefully it will just get people psyched to go climb at Laurel.

yes...it definitely did. Very nice photos and article...finally got my copy in the mail last week.
Can't wait to get back up there...hopefully in the next couple of weekends...

| I did Pirate's Cove last weekend...kind of featured in the Alpinist article...very quality, mellow climbing up the left end of the main face. I highly recommend the route. | |
