| About 90% of Stoney Point burned a couple weeks ago (October 13th?, 2008). Here are a few shots I took this morning when I was bouldering.

| Lots of the trash is gone. The Stoney Point Cleanup was scheduled for this last weekend, but I'm not sure if it occurred. There is a lot more exposed glass now, mostly in the areas that used to be bushes. The bum paraphanalia is all burned up or ran off with its owner. Most of the big trees were spared and some medium ones. The small tress are just twigs and the bushes and grass are gone. It's a bit patchy down by the stables and they did NOT burn. Someone told me they got torched too, but they appear fine.
There are only a few rocks that showed any exfoliation. In fact, most of the boulders weren't even that smoked. The vegetation was never really dense enough for the fires to burn very hot and long. There is a TON of new route potential on the newly exposed boulder faces, which is cool.
I'm hoping that the fire acted like a big kiln and hardened up the sandstone.... HA!
oh yeah, and there are MORE bees now. See my other post: http://mountainproject.com/v/southern_california/bees__stone>>>>> | FLAG |

| WOW! What a difference. Maybe the fire did the soil some good. Bummer about all the bees though. | FLAG |

| It's all part of nature and it'll grow back - perhaps it's time to build some trails? Maybe we should contact the Access Fund for advice? | FLAG |

| I agree with Cris. Although I am not frequenting the area much anymore : )only bout 2 times a year but some designated trails would not be such a bad idea. ALthough there is such a vast demographic of people using or abusing for that matter at stoney point. Not sure how much good it will do for anyone besides climbers.
I hope to make a swing in to stoney in March when I am out. I will check in with you guys to see what is the Happs on any work that can be done. | FLAG |
