Hey Y'all,

I am moving to Chattanooga in a few weeks and was hoping you could point me in the direction of some good wide stuff in the region.

Also anyone in the mood for some winter groveling? That full body workout and rock burn will keep us warm till the sun is a little higher in the sky. Thanks

Hmm... Pitch 6 of Glass Menagerie is a pretty cool offwidth, but I'm sure there's stuff that's closer and easier to get to.

Hmmm well that does look fun, but not exactly accessible. Any other ideas out there? Does T-wall have any gapers?

RRG has a few solid offwidths. Not much in NC and i cant really recall anything special at T-wall. Unfortunately or fortunately depending how you look at it they are rare finds.

Not sure about the 'nooga area but I know that there is some good groveling to be done about 3 hours north in BSF. A lot of the top outs are wide and sometimes flared chimney/water-runnel type of things. I know I've gotten my grovel on more than once there. A route we called "Green Elbow" at the Crackhouse comes to mind, though I don't think it's in any guidebooks at this time.

NRG has the best concentration of OW that I can think of, but it's a haul. Endless Wall is your best bet.

How hard are you looking for? Fists of Fury at TWall is one of the best wide cracks in the south for sure. For lighter fare, Walk in the Park at Sunset is reasonably classic.

Some good, reasonable wide/wide-ish routes in Chattanooga are: Big Leg, Tight Cat, Bad Apple, Mr. Big Stuff--Suck Creek Canyon; The Howling, Squeeze Box, Birth Canal, Anteater, Rusty's Crack, Divinity Crack, Walk in the Park--Lookout Mountain; Open Casket, The Meatrix, Can O' Worms, Electric Rats and numerous others--Tennessee Wall.

Cool! Thanks all. CTW you have me stoked for my move. Mainly because few of those climbs are here on MP. I have lots of exploring to do. Yeeeeeehaw.

There are quite a few gapers around here. I havent climbed too many. Sunset, Twall, and suck creek are your best bets. There are many other places too. But you might have to do some "exploring".

bump in case anybody has thought of any more in the last 8 years.

Although its not really in the south, Oklahoma has a pretty solid selection if you poke around a bit.

Jeeps chimney at lower hawksbill. There is an easier OW at linville river crag and ET wall

ew, why would you want to climb offwidth? Are you okay?
