Climbing in Red Rocks after heavy rain can permanently damage the rock! MORE INFO >>>

South of Windy Canyon, the cliffs get smaller and the mountainsides more broken up. There is still some good climbing on some small outcrops, and the crowds generally pass these areas up.

Getting There

There are three main ways to gain access to these crags. The Chocolate Rocks area can be reached directly from Highway 160. If you are going to the Illusion Crags area and are looking for the easiest, but longer drive, start by following the Windy Peak aprroach, and then continue south for another mile or so to a parking area. A shorter approach to the Illusion Crags can be made on a more direct dirt road, but it requires a suitable car and confident driving.

Arm Forces 5.9 5c 17 VI 17 HVS 5a  NV : Red Rock : ... : Illusion Crags
This route is located on the far left side of the Illusion Crags, about 15 feet right of French Bulges in a prominent right facing corner that features three roofs. The route starts on a small belay ledge at a yucca, just below some bushes. Ascend the corner, working some cracks on the left side and then pull the roofs. Very fun. There is a two bolt anchor above the third roof, with some slings you can rappel off the route - a 60 meter rope reaches to about ten feet above the base of the climb, ...[more]   Browse More Classics in NV
