I am going to be in the Portland, OR area for a trade show in mid October. Flying in on 10/17, and the show doesn't start until 10/22.
I have heard wonderful things about Smith Rock, and a friend of mine just visited there.
I tend to understate my abilities. 55 years old, very fit, and very much into climbing. Outside I lead 5.5 and 5.6 at The Gunks. If you don't know the Gunks, that equates to about 5.8/5.9 most other places in the Northeast. Elsewhere, that is what I climb...5.8, some 5.9. I don't fall a lot, so I climb well within my ability. I just took the SPI course, and prior to that I learned a lot from the AMC group I am associated with. So my technique is sound, and my safety is without question.
Outside top-roping I routinely climb 5.10's and an occasional .11. Inside I climb .10's, 11's and have begun working on some friendlier .12's.
I enjoy both trad and sport, but will probably not bring a rack(I will have a rope), I can bring draws, and will trade leads of appropriate difficulty, or follow.
If interested in a partner/second who knows nothing about the area(I understand you have to get used to the rock type?) but is interested in learning and climbing. Contact me.
