I'm coming from the Northeast. I'd love some suggestions on anything I can get to as a weekend warrior and after work on weekdays. I'll have a full rack and pads and stuff with me, so I'm game for any kind of climbing, but probably mostly bouldering and short technical sport routes given that its getting into winter. 5.10-11 and V3-5 ranges. I've never been, so what should I hit up? Gimme some gems!
Going to be in town for a month, November into December.
November into December can really vary year to year around SLC. Bouldering and trad climbing on Little Cottonwood granite could be prime. Sport climbing on American Fork limestone could be great that time of year on the sunny walls. Stuff out in the West Desert near SLC can be much better than in the summer heat. Or, it can be really cold and snowing and the skiing will be great. If you can get away for a few days, heading down to St. George can be really good that time of year. I would bring climbing gear, skis and a mountain bike, and you will be ready for any conditions. Have a good visit.
American fork is great, but would be tough after work that time of year (short days). Safe to say that the south facing granite in LCC will be good. Mexican crack, and the coffin are 2 of my favorites at the bottom end of the grade range you mentioned...not sport routes but worth doing
Great thing about salt lake city in my opinion isn't even the local cragging (which is great) but the options for weekend trips to places like city of rocks, St George, Moab, Joe's valley, ibex, and so on....
