Took advantage of the nice weather and ample snow pack last weekend to do some ski mountaineering. This summit has most likely not seen a ski descent before this. This summit is approximately 1/2 mile southeast of Mt. Irving in the Weeminuche Wilderness.

At the Vallecito trailhead.

Sunset the first night on Echo peak.

Andy skinning with Mt. Irving behind.

Summit is near.

Almost there!

On top with Mt. Oso behind.

Mid way down.

Andy sampling the goods.

Nap time.
Trying to get out again this weekend and ski Mt. Oso before any more snow melts. I know I should be at Indian Creek by now, but there is soooo much snow in the Juans right now!

Looks sweet. Gotta love that dust layer that flew in...

Dust on crust!! Actually the dust spots made for buttery turns.

Looks like you've got some nice conditions out there right now! I was out in the San Juans climbing ice a little earlier in the season and I remember looking around and wishing that I'd brought my skis.

The LA mountains have been killer this year too. I typically ski a bunch in the Sierra, but the snow around LA has been so good this year that I've barely been up to the Sierra yet at all.

Here are a few shots from our local mountains in Southern California this winter:

Cory-Looks like you guys have awesome coverage too. Nice photos!! Our snow is melting fast, and the weather has been sucky for skiing. Hopefully we will get some nice days with melt/freeze soon. J

Nice!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
