I'd get some used Silvretta 404 bindings and mount them on a used decent light ski. You can ski this rig in your mountaineering boots.

I don't think this is good advice. The guy's never skied in his life! See comments above from Goran Lynch and Mark Felber, and some of the comments in this thread: www.mountainproject.com/v/approach-ski/107296296

Colin Haley on approach skis

Check out this link. For those that want to do this, knee cords are a must. You'll ski way better, but people will look at you like you are crazy.

I wouldn't recommend skiing on approaches unless you are already a good skier, and even then you have to be very cautious. For those that can ski, though, it is so far superior to snowshoes, you'll never want to use them again. If the descent is difficult, it can be easier to wear AT boots and carry your climbing boots, or if the climbing is easy, to climb in AT boots. I've used all three options on different climbs. Ski boots suck on anything harder than wi3 or so.
