Sincere critique: Some words I stumbled upon

Does this make sense to anyone? Mean something to you? I can't figure out if this has a point or a direction. It is certainly not organized, it jumps around for sure...

Do you think it has any good points? At all?

true face climbing is not concerned whether you are a sinner or a saint.

true face climbing is not concerned whether you are a alpine rock climber or you strictly climb on boulders. Whether you are a mountaineer cruising snow routes or technical/ice/mixed routes. A bolt clipper or a cam placer.

The true face climber puts effort into filling their potential (we are born with a finite amount of potential). The true face climber takes the experiences/energy from climbing and applies them (effort) to filling their own potential, expanding their own mind (creating more capacity within them).

By expanding our minds (creating more capacity) we not only enrich our climbing life but our non climbing life as well. Climbing and non-climbing are one, the same. Live climbing with every sip and every bite you take; with every turn of the steering wheel; and every door you open.

The true face climber is one who turns their inquiries (gossips, judgements, wonderings “why is that person like that…” etc) and energies inwards. The true face climber instead of asking (thinking, pondering, figuring) why someone cares about this or that, or acts like this or that; they turn those questions (inquiries) inwards and ask themselves “why do I do this or that, why do I care, why am I concerned?” Be unconcerned with others, it is a guaranteed way to be thrown off balance.

The true face climber may be nice, mean, ugly, sexually attractive, cool, uncool, Buddhist, Christian, atheist, gay, talented, suck, experienced or rookie. These are just labels and are of no concern to the true face climber nor are they of concern to true face climbing.

The true face climber is not concerned with others; they are only concerned/responsible for themselves. That is: The true face climber is not concerned that you have climbed on 7 continents and are the coolest climber ever. Others experiences are of no concern to the true face climber.

If someone is bragging or clinging to the beta systems (example) it is not the true face climbers concern. If the true face climber finds themselves being drawn into the negativity the true face climber accepts their anger/annoyance, etc and BRINGS that energy back to them self and transfers it to positivity, the moment, the climb, etc

When we retain our energy the retained energy turns into nutrition. The true face climber creates their own self sustaining nutrition.

The true face climber knows that just as there is no, or limited, physical growth without nutrition (vitamins, minerals, protein, etc.), one’s own mind will never expand, never create more capacity without this other, non-physical nutrition. Both the tangible and the intangible are equally important.

The true face climber is aware that he/she cannot always give; sometimes one must retain the "overflow" energy for recovery or growth to give examples. The true face climber is mindful about whether they can give or whether they should retain (to restore balance), letting the energy come back to them (as all energy returns to its source).

When we retain "magic" happens and the true face climber does what he/she can to allow the process to happen, sitting silently possibly or removing yourself from a crowd to be somewhere non-hectic or private (some may not be able to be around others and focus).

True face climbing is using, taking on, climbing as meditation. What does that mean? True face climbing has purpose, it is a method of shedding layers (of the ego) and it is multitasking. Each individual is different and will find/have different purposes. Climbing is adventure, exploration, fun, stimulating plus much more. Climbing is not only fun and an extracurricular activity (for most),a pass time, but it is also an activity that when performed it lends itself easily to allow the climber to see their true face, their way, their truth. Not that of their mom or dad, teacher or police officers, government, friends, businesses, but that of their true voice, their “true face”.

Climbing, in such a hectic time in the human evolution (pollution, constant stimulation via tv, cell phone, computers, electronic billboards, etc,) is a very simple way to quite the mind (this will be temporary at first but the true face climber takes advantage of this/these moment(s)). Just start heading up and BAM! You are raw and ripe for growth. An energy factory.

Just like meditations given to a disciple, not every way (bouldering, sport, traditional, alpine, etc) and route (difficulty, r or x or pg, 1 or 33 pitches) is for everyone. We all have our unique formula/equation. One meditation (route or way) may work for you but not your friend, brother, neighbor, etc. The true face climber discovers their own unique "equation" and when one has found their truth they are showered with flowers. The universe showers them with flower

How do you grow while climbing? There is much to be thinking about, how do you climb safely, comfortably, and turn your attention inwards to the vast internal unique universe?

The true face climber uses the unique "window" opening experience of climbing for growth. Climbing makes certain windows (what windows/subjects differs person to person) more easily seen (made aware of, brought to our attention, highlighted, etc), windows that are otherwise hard to gain awareness for (combat, severe car accidents, avalanches, near death experiences, protection zippers, etc also allow us a more effortless opportunity to move inwards). Don't miss these moments! They are not bad/negative or positive. They are gifts and usually rare opportunities that the unconscious (blind to the inner universe that is within us all) person will miss. Don't miss.

The true face climber is a new kind of rebel: one who finds and maintains their own path. The true face climber breaks the robotic mold, stream, by experimenting and experiencing for themselves whether it is for them or not. Be unconcerned if the mainstream is not your way (after you've experienced and experimented). Also be unconcerned if the mainstream is your way (after experience and experiment). Move forward with confidence and unconcern. Life is one continuous flow/evolution so what is good or cool today may not be tomorrow.

Be a rebel. Be a true face climber. Find yourself, find love for yourself and immerse yourself in the whole of existence.

The true face climber is totally in tune with death. Death is something we are born with, existence/our universe = 50% life and 50% death. positive energy, negative energy. Every time you leave the ground that emptiness, awareness, total focus is largely created (the space, expansion of mind, capacity) by death, its presence is known. Death is always with us 24/7. We carry our death constantly. This is represented in Christianity by Jesus carrying his cross, his death (just for a visual example/representation). Death could also be seen as a shadow that never disappears; its always there perfectly following your every move.

The true face climber uses the established beta systems (yds, v scale, etc) like a cartographer uses benchmarks. Simply as reference points, using the systems and other beta as handrails to guide them, not as THE guide but as A guide. The true face climber does not measure themselves, the experience matters most, not the numbers, not the formulas you’ll need to measure.

Remember each climb is a meditation and there is no one meditation for everyone. Some get their cups filled on meditations/routes/experiences at the 5.4 difficulty and are happy staying there. Some at the 5.4 level will still have hankerings, splits in themselves. This may be because the 5.4 meditations are not for them, their energies are not matched, in tune, one. Maybe their energy cannot be contained within this “easier” realm? Maybe the 5.13 meditation/route/experience works for them. One has to be a witness to ones self and find, through effort, where their ultimate meditation/difficulty/comfort level is. Their version of perfection.

Perfect does not exist outside of ones self. The only true perfection in this world is within ourselves, for ourselves. Find your perfection and know your perfection is not the right way, it is just your way and your perfection may not work for others. This is ok, it is the way of the universe. We all have our unique ways.

Meditation is related to medicine. Meditations are given by masters to disciples (patients). The true face climber uses/sees/experiences every route (known or unknown, established or not) as a/their distinct (unique) meditation. Each route is a unique formula that equates to a specific energy and in order to master the meditation one must learn the lessons/purpose of the route/meditation. Some are fast, slow, long, short (reaches as well as distance), some are squished and some wide/comfortable, some happy some sad, some angry some peaceful. These descriptions are not just the routes but how/where you're at when you meet the route/meditation.

Let existence (sometimes when we approach the route we are already sad, happy, extreme, angry, lethargic, uncomfortable, etc so may we be in tune with ourselves when we start the climb or choose the climb) be your master and let each route be your medicine/homework.

Where we are when we meet the climb, start the climb + the climb/meditation itself (the journey, the happenings) = optimum time for creativity and growth.

The true face climber knows that the mountains (climbing, backpacking, solitude) will not save him. Climbing has a greater purpose than being an escape or a drug (a quick fix).

The true face climber knows that everything in existence goes back to its source eventually therefore reintroducing yourself to society and accepting said society is a must if you want to maximize your potential.

Raised in society, leave, return to society.

The true face climber puts effort (thinking without action is not effort, a pseudo effort at best) towards filling their own shoes, their own potential.

Duality = fighting = I don't like it (as much as...) = it is, but... = non acceptance = stagnation = nongrowth = history repeating itself

One = acceptance = it is = peace, calm, comfort, connection, movement, growth = learning from history

Mastery on the ground, mastery on easy routes, and transferring the energy from the climb to your meditation. Meditation afterwards (after climb) is key, like stretching do it after you've been warmed up.

The true face climber lives climbing. Climbing teaches/forces (if you want to excel) you to be comfortable in uncomfortable situations. Climbing teaches/forces...

Too bad. I think the idea is a good one. Has potential for a really good piece (article, whatever) but is extremely hard to read; how it is written now, it is not very captivating. Edges on the side of boring. But i really enjoy the idea of it. What is it for?

I have no idea what its for. I stumbled upon it.

Reads like it was written by a Frenchman on peyote with a personality disorder on that thinks he´s a philosipher and then translated by babblefish.

I wonder if its finished. maybe its thoughts/insights written down as they came. I'm intrigued by some of it.

Some interesting concepts, but most of it seems like someone whose lacking any skill in English, while attempting to sounds like a decisive philosopher.

The overall concept of being a "true face climber" seems to be the made of ravings of someone in over their heads, attempting to make a sort of manifesto. Reminds me of something I would have written in middle school to make myself sound like I was part of something important.

Could have potential as a first draft if it was heavily de-cluttered and slightly re-purposed. Also, would read better without all the talk about "energies becoming unified, simplified, synergized, ONE." Comes off as crackpot theories.

I enjoy many of these thoughts/ideas and I think the way they are presented forced me to think a little more about what was trying to be conveyed (the writing is a bit hard to understand).

Some points are better than others, but almost all of the ideas are interesting.

It was written by someone not alive anymore. A friend. I wonder if I can organize and simplify it. I think true face probably should be: "true face" or True Face. He was very into Zen and they use the term "true face". I might just do this...

what about the True Crack Climbers?

William Sonoma · · Unknown Hometown · Joined Dec 2012 · Points: 3,550

I am 99.9% positive he meant "true face" in the zen way, not climbing (face climbing, crack climbing, etc). True Face is someonse truth, their answer. It fits. But I guess we'll never truly know. He was a wild man (high most of the time also) but I'm certain he meant the zen version.

That's the first thing I thought of also Mo! Dang he must have loved face climbing...

I was digging through my old military stuff in the attic. He didn't have family and when he died there was no one to contact. I took some of his art, poetry and barracks door tag, etc. I wasn't into climbing back then so I just wasn't interested (or interested in "eastern" thought) I guess and glazed over this piece. He climbed a lot in Hawaii. His name was Henry. He's burried at Arlington.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
