Sierra west side parking

A friend and I are going into Kings Canyon in June to climb Charlottes Dome. We both live on the central coast and I will be returning home but he will be heading east to SLC for the summer. Due to his future travel he will have a truck full I stuff we are nervous about leaving at the trailhead for a few days. Does anyone have a suggestion for a place in the Central Valley, between bakersfield and Fresno, that would be a secure and safe place to leave a car for a few days? We're happy to pay a few bucks a day.

Any leads are appreciated!

Thanks,
Kevin

The Road's End trailhead parking lot in King's Canyon is probably more secure than leaving your truck somewhere in the Central Valley unless you find somebody with a garage. I would just make sure it is locked and valuables not visible. The ranger's kiosk where you pick up your wilderness permit is right by the parking lot.

Ya I'd leave my baby unattended in the KC parking lot and feel ok about it. It's a mellow place and I've never heard of anyone having trouble there.

That being said, if he's not comfortable leaving it there, I live in a gated neighborhood in Visalia and you can leave it here as long as you want. I've also got a tiny bouldering wall in my garage you can warm up on, the lines are almost as classic as the S. face of Charlotte Dome.

Either way, hope everything goes great for your trip!

Thanks for the replies - I think we'll just take it up into Kings. Just found out the truck cap doesn't lock however...time to work on replacement keys.

Quite a few years ago I left my car at the Road's End parking lot for 6 weeks while I did a high level traverse of the Sierra Nevada range, and hitched/took buses back. When I came back the car was fine, and the ranger in the kiosk remembered me and asked about the trip. King's Canyon is not nearly as urbanized as Yosemite or a few other national parks I could name, so I don't think you'll have any trouble. Like powder finger said, the ranger kiosk is right there, and I'm sure the rangers pass through the lot a few times each night to check for bears. Just don't leave any food in the truck, or anything that looks like food where the bears can see it.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
