Shortoff

Anybody have any problems tent camping around the parking lot just for the night? I have my VW bus but I got some friends meeting me that were just going to pop a tent for the night.

People tent camp there all the time. There are multiple turn-outs with campsites.

I wouldn't think it would be a problem. I've slept in my truck many times there but never pitched a tent. I've never seen any NFS personnel around there? If it's not visually posted you should fine.

Tyler, on a side note; where would you park to sleep in your van around Rumbling Bald? I'm headed there this weekend a would rather not pay for camping and I don't think your suppose to sleep in your car in the parking lot. Thanks and hope someone has a bit more beta on Shortoff camping than me!

just don't set up the tent in the actual pullouts for cars...otherwise it's common practice.

Ok thanks guys. As for the bald... across the street I camp either on the little loop or on the dead end where everyone parks when main parking lot is full. I was just parking in that new development but I heard cops are running dirt baggers off.

Unfortunately I'm only there for tomorrow. I told the girlfriend I would do some stupid triathlon with her sunday.
