Anyone been down to Shelf recently. I'm possibly planning a trip down on New Years. I just wondered if it's been too snowy down there.

It is never too snowy at shelf. Shelf is always good. You can take that to the "Bank"!

Seriously, I was there Sunday, it was gorgeous.

What's the coldest temperature in the sun you can deal with?

40 F?
45 F?

Does it need to break into the 50s to get you out to Shelf?

Just curious. I'm a bit on the fence on the answer. Using Table as a guide, I have found the windy 40s rather cold when a cloud came by.

I'm a firm believer that as long as a cliff is in the sun and sheltered from the wind, air temperature is irrelevant.

I have found that if the temps are 40 degrees outside and Im climbing in the sun then I'm comfortable, especially on single pitch stuff. Are you on the fence about this weekend?

You need to seriously reconsider your commitment to this sport. 50?!?!

That's way too hot to be climbing in the sun!

Shelf was gorgeous today, as it was on Sunday.

Thanksgiving day, there was a high of 22 in Sinks Canyon...it was beautiful. Last year I had a day at the Creek with a high of 17 - it was great climbing, but the camping was iffy.

Sunny, no wind, south facing walls at Shelf are still pleasant at 20 degrees. Cloudy and 40 sucks.

Yeah, temps never concern me when the sun is out. I've climbed in Indian Creek in Jan with pants and short sleeve shirt, Sinks Canyon when is was about 16 deg in town(shorts). Shelf in the 20's wearing shorts. 50 deg in the sun at Shelf is probably too warm for me. Just do it!

Yeah, but I will have my climbing gear ready just the same.

I've been out at Shelf every other day for the last month... great conditions, just bring some hand warmers for you chalk bag.

(FYI: the BLM has decided to close the road up to the bank for the time being... c'est la vie. Anyway, it doesn't matter much, the Gallery and Gulch are beautiful with the snow.)

I was thinking of heading down this Saturday/Sunday. Anyone interested?

Climbed at Shelf last Sunday. The road up to the Bank campground was open.

Awesome! So the weather looks like low 50s and mostly sunny Saturday and Sunday. I was thinking of driving down Saturday morning and climbing both Sat and Sun. Anyone interested? Not sure if I am summer fit, but I have led up to 5.11c at shelf last summer. Let me know if anyone is interested.

Emailing Tina now...
Who else was thinking on this weekend?

Shelf's golden right now... 50s-60s for the weekend and the bank road is open and navigable! See you out there.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
